Kinda hard to explain, but those who have done it before know what I’m talking about. One side had edges while the other was rounded. The drive plates did have a very specific way they were put in. I used the old ones to make sure I put the new ones in in the right order. I made sure to be very careful taking the old ones out. The old plates were definitely not in very good shape. Quick and easy putting it all back together. Went there this morning and picked it up. Luckily there was a shop about 45 minutes away that had one. So after waiting for the plates, I finally cracked the case open last night. Just glad it wasn’t an issue that left me stranded on the side of the road. So now, unfortunately, I think it’s time for a new clutch. And then wanted to kick either the dealership or the previous owner in the ass for adjusting it so poorly in the first place. And wanted to kick myself in the ass first for being so ignorant. So I took it back, adjusted it back to 12-13mm. Unfortunately, it still wanted to slip way up there around 9500-10000. The bike hauled ass like I’ve never felt before. Clutch still disengaged, so I took it for a ride. Took it back, adjusted it to 20 for shits and giggles. Wack the throttle, and the bike is much more responsive than before, but still slipping at about 6-7k. And easy roll on the throttle and no slippage. Looked up the clutch play specs in the owners manual. But if it’s the method to these bikes’ madness, then I’ll gladly yield to the beast. So if a power commander will solve this, I’m all for it. I’ve never ridden another sport bike to compare it to, but I’d love to feel more connection and synchronization with my bike. The throttle just feels out of sync with the engine, and the engine out of sync with the trans. Is this a computer thing? Will a throttle controller or power commander help this? It’s not something I’ve ever felt before, with any non-CVT car and especially not with my sportster. It does the same thing if I wanna speed up in 5th or 4th, it’ll shoot up to 6/7k until the bike eventually gets up to speed, then I can almost feel the engine and transmission syncing up again. It almost feels like a CVT car, where the rpms will stick up there, while it feels like the trans catches up. Which in 6th would take a while, but in 3rd it’s a lot quicker. Rather than feel the engine struggle with the fuel delivery, the rpms will shoot up to 10k and sit there until I’m going fast enough to justify the rpms going higher. Now this is a far cry from my carbureted sportster, where if I’m in 3rd gear, depending on my speed, going wide open would bog the engine down and you’d feel it. If I were to throw the throttle wide open in 3rd gear, the rpms will shoot up like I’m in neutral, while the power slowly kicks in. Coming from an 01 sportster 1200, this bike has been a learning curve. The problem I have is the throttle response. The high rpms will really get the blood pumping. The speed is slow to kick in during low rpms, which is expected with my bike producing crappy torque. But the gixxus forums are largely dead, along with the naked bike section of this forum, so I figured I’d have better luck here. a naked bike amongst the gixxer community.
